Cold weather in January always brings the birds to my feeder. They bring me a lot of joy as I watch them gobbling down the sunflower seeds and millet. The Red Bellied Woodpecker and Mourning Dove share the feeder together. This is nice to see since birds are often very competitive for the food. Perhaps we could learn from them how to get along.

Kim at d’Verse asked us to write a Haibun that talks about January and all it brings with it. I love my winter birds so I chose to write this one.

I think the same thing when I see birds harmoniously foraging in the same area. Bird feeders bring such joy.

Thank you Grace! I am amazed that they come so close to the house to eat. My telephoto lens makes me feel like I could reach out and touch them!

The photograph made a strong first impression on me Dwight – nicely shot! We too have feeders and I enjoy watching the birds. How delightful to see the two species together! A lesson for all, indeed.

Thanks Kim. Sometimes I get lucky when shooting them. They tend to move very quickly so sometimes I get them and sometimes all I get is feathers!

I like the idea of much to learn from the birds .. except for the blue jay who seems to be a fractious bully!

I love winter birds… but the kind we get are a little bit limited… maybe I need a better feeder… I remember as a kid when I watched them… especially miss seeing the bullfinches… they are really cool
